We want to put recessed (most likely CA halogen) into our new ceiling which has a cavity space of 280mm (skillion roof) and 190mm thick polyester insulation.

As the insulation is so thick most standard CA halogens (heat can + transformer) would be fully enclosed by the surrounding insulation, even if a hole were cut the diameter of the fitting. Is this acceptable fire risk wise or are there other options/products, apart from cutting big holes in the insulation.

cheers

Would led downlights be an option for you? Seems they resolve the issue with heat generation and are cheap to run. Google led downlights or see sites like http://www.ledstuff.co.nz/product_info.php?cPath=26&products_id=208.

Hi Craig

Not sure how suited to your roof space these enclosures would be. However have a look at http://www.ecohaven.com.au/information/news/37-downlight-guard.html
