Hi all, I'm new to posting on the board but have read posts for some time. We are in the process of kick starting an extension off the back of our bungalow... or at least trying to!
The first lot of plans added 80sqm on a concrete slab base... comprised two new kids bedrooms, a family room and laundry and a new carport off the side, plus a small amount of internal tinkering (ie: bathroom becomes ensuite, laundry becomes bathroom etc)... alas when the first price came in at $200K+ we went back to the drawing board and scaled it back to 50sqm, comprising one bedroom, family room and laundry and no carport as exisiting garage can now stay where it is... first price, from the same builders who quoted the larger extension has now come in at $180K. So I feel we've lost quite a bit of space but not made the gains in $$$ budget.
Anyway, I'm wondering... is this just the sort of cost that we should expect or does it seem high?

It's a psm cost of more than $3000.
The finish is nice but not extravagent by any means... decent enough quality but reasonable priced bathroom fittings, kitchen cabinetry, re-using the benchtops and a lot of the bathroom taps/bath/cabinet/toilet etc etc... biggest luxuries would be polishing the concrete, tiling in the small bathroom and ensuite and a 5m pitch in the centre to match exisitng house, with high windows to catch the afternoon sun and get us within height to boundary.
We've got a big family in a small house, so very keen to get underway but only if we can get the prices to stack up. Waiting on two more quotes so I guess that will give us more idea... and bank wants only a full contract so no options for cutting the costs by organising more stuff ourselves.
