I'm looking into building my a new home in the South Island, I'm looking at Versatile, GJ gjgarder.co.nz and McRaeway Homes www.mcraewayhomes.co.nz and was wondering what people's experience are with them. Is there a difference between the company? Or is it just price?
Has anyone bought an A1 kitset and your experience. They seem to be much less than McRaeway Home (which is the other one I am looking at). Do you get what you pay for? I'm still in my research stage but there seems to be several companies in the South Island. Thanks
I am a Central Otago based PVCu window and door company and have done alot of work for A1 Homes. We have found A1 to be a reputable no bullsh1t kitset outfit but if you want to do things properly don't let them sway you into using their own products - eg: crappy aluminium windows. We have done several A1 homes with PVCu windows and clients have loved them - BUT it's up to YOU to specify them because A1 will push you towards their own suppliers (crappy Aluminium) otherwise. A1 are a good basic allround kitset company for the price - just keep in mind you can modify/upspec to your own requirements.
Buildright has his head screwed on regarding PVCu windows in New Zealand! They're the way of the future.
Thanks Thermalspec. I looked at A1 but for future sell on figures, it appears A1 homes do not sell as well as a home from McRaeway Homes. It seem that McRaeway Homes or David Reid is viewed as a premium brand and therefore seem to command a higher sell on figure in the future. Which is important, as I can only afford a smaller model at the moment but hopefully will be able to sell on for a good profit margin in future. Just want to get the most from my investment. I have to choose the materials carefully also.
